Background When the United States began considering a piloted voyage to the moon, an enormous number of unknowns about strategies, techniques, and equipment existed. Some people began wondering how a landing maneuver might be performed on the lunar surface. From the beginning of the age of flight, landing has been among the most challenging of flight maneuvers. Touching down smoothly has been the aim of pilots throughout the first century of flight. Designers have sought the optimum aircraft configuration for landing. Engineers have sought the optimum sensors and instruments for best providing the pilot with the information needed to perform…

Background by John Greenewald – The Black Vault – Originally Published May 2, 2019 As the Navy sends out a statement this week that any new “UFO” reports relating to their new guidelines will likely remain a secret; the intelligence community continues to “lose” UFO related documents from our past. Nearly two years ago, I filed a Mandatory Declassification Review (MDR) request with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for the re-evaluation of a one page document, back from 1952, in hopes more of the record could be released. Background Between Sputnik’s launching in October 1957 and the lunar landing in July 1969 America sponsored five human spaceflight projects. NASA’s Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo were well publicized and to varying degrees Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, and Lyndon B. Johnson used them as tools for garnering international prestige in the cold war competition with the Soviet Union. However, Dynasoar and the Manned Orbiting Laboratory (MOL) of the DoD were largely classified and fundamentally oriented toward the military mission of reconnaissance. This study examines the NASA-DoD relationship with a special emphasis on these two sets of projects by…

Background On June 3, 1980, U.S. Command posts received a warning that the Soviet Union had launched a nuclear strike. It is believed that multiple launch crews for Minuteman missiles were given launch warnings, and bomber crews began manning their aircraft. What was bizarre, however, which clued operators in to it was a false alarm, is that there screens were showing 2, 0, then 200 incoming missiles. It turned out to be a faulty computer chip error which caused the panic, but it solidified the very short amount of time that the President has to make a retaliatory strike decision.…

Background Hypnosis is a state of human consciousness involving focused attention and reduced peripheral awareness and an enhanced capacity to respond to suggestion. In some cases, hypnosis has been used by law enforcement to help witnesses recall previous events, memories etc. I thought it would be interesting to see if hypnosis was utilized by the United States Secret Service (USSS), so in June of 2017, I filed a FOIA request that asked for the following: I respectfully request a copy of records, electronic or otherwise, of any and all policy documents, or records describing the use of HYPNOSIS by your…
