In March of 2018, The Black Vault filed a FOIA request (case 1401549-000) to the FBI for the following:
“… all e-mails sent to or from, Director of the FBI James Comey, which contain the word ‘TRUMP’. I ask that you conduct a search for records dating from 1/1/16 to 5/9/17.”
The request was originally rejected as being too broad, so an appeal was submitted (case DOJ-AP-2018-005587) on May 25, 2018. There was no final response received from this case, however, nearly 1,600 pages were released on April 2024 relating to the original filing.
In essence, the appeal was likely granted (unclear why The Black Vault was never notified), and the records were processed.
The case is still open seeking out additional records, however, the initial near 1,600 pages are available below.
